WHAT’S NEW AT IRENE ABDOU PHOTOGRAPHY

Quarterly Picture Postcard and Newsletter
Summer 2008, Volume 2, Issue 1

1. INTRO

Another season, another newsletter. This past quarter has been incredibly busy, but at the same time very rewarding, with all sorts of new photographic opportunities. I hope this summer has been as great to you as it has to me.

2. PICTURE POSTCARD

I was just signed up last week by ArtMatters, a corporate art consulting firm that is now representing me for my landscape photography work. So I thought it fitting that I make this quarter’s picture postcard a landscape of the Smoky Mountains in Tennessee.

Summer 2008

Please circulate this postcard to friends, family, colleagues, etc. If you would like one (or a few) print copies from me, send me an e-mail, and I’d be happy to oblige. As always, if you’d like back issues of previous picture postcards, just let me know. Or, view them first on the web in the Picture Postcard Gallery.

3. FINE ART PHOTOGRAPHY

I’ve been very fortunate to have had quite a lot of new successes in this past quarter.

  • One of the biggest news is that I received a $3,500 FY09 Creative Projects grant from the Montgomery County Arts & Humanities Council. Thank you, Montgomery County!
  • Plus, as I mentioned earlier, ArtMatters, an art consulting firm based in Rockville, Maryland, is now representing my landscape photography work. ArtMatters places artwork in corporate and public spaces, working with businesses, health facilities, government agencies, and non-profit organizations. If you would like to speak to ArtMatters about my work, visit http://www.artmatters.us. Also view my landscapes in the
    Scenics & ‘Scapes Gallery.
  • Finally, as promised in my last newsletter, Agora Gallery of Chelsea, New York has issued a press release about my work, an outcome of the 2008 Chelsea International Fine Art Competition, in which I was named a “Selected Artist.” You can view the press release (scroll to the bottom) and some of my limited edition photographs on Art-Mine.com.
Upcoming Exhibits
• November 2008 – FotoweekDC – More news coming later…
• October 2008 – 2008 International Fine Art Exhibition, Center for Fine Art Photography, Fort Collins, CO (Physical Gallery and Internet Exhibits)

4. WHAT’S NEW ONLINE AT WWW.PHOTOSWITHSOUL.COM

As always, I’ve added many new images this quarter. Here’s a taste of what you’ll see in the New Releases section of the website:

• More Smoky Mountains and other scenics & ‘scapes, and more Africa…August 2008
• Vietnam, more Africa, and Bhutan/Smithsonian Folklife Festival…July 2008
• Nigeria – a sampling of images from an assignment for the Society for Family Health, Nigeria’s largest indigenous non-profit organization…June 2008
• (More) Sudan, Fine art from Cambodia, Lighting to Unite at the Washington National Cathedral, and the 2008 Joint Service Air Show…May 2008

5. COMMERCIAL PHOTOGRAPHY SERVICES

We’ve added more images to our family & casual event photography gallery this quarter, so check it out! Also, don’t forget about my wedding photography services.

Does your business need photography? Visit the corporate photography, event photography, and assignment photography page for a full list of services for businesses.

Finally, I’ve also started to offer private one-on-one lessons in Germantown, Maryland and practice field sessions in the Washington, DC area to build your knowledge of photography and photography skills, as well as digital post-processing with Adobe Photoshop Lightroom and Adobe Photoshop or Photoshop Elements. The photography sessions are designed for SLR users, since we will discuss camera operations that may not be available on point-and-shoot cameras. Because the lessons focus on how to use YOUR specific camera, whether Canon, Nikon, or other brand, you will learn in a very practical and hands-on manner. Visit the private photography lessons and practice field sessions page for a full list of topics and pricing.

Have something else in mind? We're always open to new projects. Don't hesitate to contact us with your ideas.
